Daytime Events in South Beach Miami

South Beach Miami is famous for its nightlife: clubs, restaurants, DJ’s, parties… but there’s so much more South Beach has to offer. In South Beach you can expect to see a multitude of tourists speaking different languages, surfers catching  waves, people swimming with all kind of sea animals, and even the occasional celebrity walking along the sea shore. Even though it may not look like it, there’s an abundance of daytime events in South Beach, with the Everglades nearby, multiple water activities, and the delights of the Vizcaya… South Beach (sometimes called SoBe) is an amazing place to just sit and chill out under the sun. And we have managed to find lots of events for you! Not only have we found this month’s music & dance festival, wine testings, opera, and day-time tours, but also every-day actions including organic-markets, botanical gardens, and many more that you can find all year round!

Virginia Key Grassroots festival of Music & Dance

February 18 – February 21

This amazing festival is an all-day event that takes place on February 18, until February  21st, and will host over 50 bands all around its 4 stages. The bands that will be present include School of Rock, Kids’ Yoga, Jim Lauderdale, The Blind Spots, and many others.Concerts start at 9:00 a.m., with the last one being until 1:00 a.m. You can still get your tickets at the gates for $120 for all 4 days, and if you want to bring your kids (13-15 years old) the 4 day ticket is $50. All kids 12 years old or under are free to enter, but must me accompanied by  parent or guardian. If you’d like to purchase your tickets by day, Thursday and Friday are $30 each, while Saturday & Sunday are $40 each. The Virginia Key Grassroots festival of Music & Dance offers a Tent Camping option for $60, and it includes all 4 days of the festival. You can find the performance schedule here. 

South Beach Food and Wine Festival

February 24 – February 28

This is the 15th year the Food and Wine Festival will be hosted in South Beach. daytime events in south beach miamiThe South Beach Food and Wine Festival is a five-day long event full of glorious food, famous chefs, flowing champagne (or wine, or beer), and different events, both private and public. On February 28th you can enjoy the Bloody Mary Brunch held on the Ritz-Carlton, Fort Lauderdale, with a price of $175. This brunch will be happening from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM. Another event hosted on February the 28th is the 3-5 PM ON OCEAN DRIVE, held on Grand Tasting Village, you can see a variety of chefs while enjoying a refreshing stroll through an unending array of scents and tastes while celebrating all areas of Miami with all the participating restaurants together in culinary quadrants. The Phantom of the Opera

February 24 – March 06

Andrew Lloyd Webber’s masterpiece will be performed at the Ziff Opera House from February 24 until March 06. If you are a fan of the opera, this is definitely a play worth your while. Jungle Island Easter Eggstravaganza

March 25 – March 27

The Jungle Island Easter Eggstravaganza is a spectacular event with over 50,000 eggs and more than 800 pounds of candy! During these days there is a daily egg hunt, pie-eating contests, art and crafts, elephant rides, among many other seasonal events, and on top of all of this, it is in benefit of the Miss Millie Foundation. The tickets for general admission are of $35.95 per adult, and $32.95 per children (from ages 3-10).

Now, aside from all these amazing events  Miami will be hosting this month, there are also plenty of things you can enjoy all year-round, like museums! From groundbreaking museums dedicated to modern art to fascinating historical museums, Miami has a lot of different options for you, no matter what kind of art you like! Here are a couple of modern museums that we just love.

 

PAMM (Pérez Art Museum Miami)

PAMM is a modern and contemporary art museum dedicated to art of the 20th and 21st century from all around the world located on 1103 Biscayne Blvd. PAMM has transformed Museum Park into a central destination on Miami’s cultural map, as it not only promotes arts education, but it also helps build community cohesiveness, and contributes substantially to downtown revitalization. This amazing museum is open everyday from  10 AM to 6 PM, save from Wednesdays, Thanksgiving day, and Christmas when the museum remains closed, and Thursday you can visit the museum from 10 AM to 9 PM. Tickets for members, children under 6, and active U.S. Military are free, while adults are $16, and seniors, students, and youths (ages 7-18) are $12. Now, if you don’t like walking around a museum by yourself, or if you’d like to learn a little bit more about the exhibitions, PAMM offers daily public tours (45 minutes), private tours by reservation, and access tours for guests with special needs. You can get a free public tour on Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at 11 AM, 12 PM, and 2:30 PM, and Thursdays evenings at 6:30 PM. Tours in Spanish are available on Saturdays at 2:00 PM.   

ICA (Institute of Contemporary Art)

The Institute of Contemporary Art is located on 4040 NE 2nd Avenue, and  is dedicated to promoting the work of contemporary artists and the exchange of art and ideas throughout the Miami region and internationally with more than 20,000 square feet of exhibition galleries as well as 15,000 sqft of public sculpture garden. The ICA is a free of charge museum where you can enjoy the most innovative and experimental art of our time.  ICA reflects both, the unique cultural landscape of the Miami region and the museum’s mission of engaging our community with the work of the most innovative local and international artists working today. Here you can find a calendar with a lists of the exhibitions at the ICA. You can visit this amazing museum from Tuesday to Sunday from 11 AM to 7 PM.

Miami Beach Botanical Garden

Now, if you are not really in a museum kind of mood, don’t worry, we have another option for you: the  Miami Beach Botanical Garden. Miami’s Botanical Garden is a great opportunity to enjoy the beautiful flora of this city, while enjoying a relaxing day out in the sun. You will not only see beautiful flowers, and discover the stories behind the plants and landscapes, but you will also learn a little bit more about the environment and how to protect it. Fresh Market

daytime events south beach miamiIn 2011 the Fresh Market finally opened its doors in Miami after a long anticipated wait on 18th and West Avenue. Fresh Market is a daytime event in South Beach Miami that makes you feel like you are shopping at a European market that offers fresh fruit, vegetables, meat, and fish, among other departments, all under one roof. The fruits and vegetables section offers organic and local produce, for all of those looking for a healthier option. At the middle of the store you can find a seafood counter, delicatessen, bakery, and a salad bar. You can also find fresh sushi daily. Fresh Market is open from Monday to Saturday from 9 AM to 9 PM, and on Sundays from 10 AM to 8 PM.

Lincoln Road Farmers Market

And last but not least, who doesn’t love a Farmer’s Market? There are a lot of daytime events south beachfarmer’s markets in Miami, but are favorite is the one on Lincoln Road, between Washington & Meridian. You can find this one all year-round on Sundays from 9 AM to 6 PM. Founded in 1995 by Claire, it has now become a weekly Miami Beach institution, with multiple vendors who offer these products to residents and visitors alike.
