What to Do in South Beach April 2019

This April, Miami will host Florida’s biggest county fair, a poetry festival and one of the region’s largest confectionery and cake industry events. Or, work off those sweets at one of the many sporting events this month, such as the South Beach Triathlon. See more details below.

Miami-Dade County Fair & Expo

A great opportunity for families to get out and about, the Miami-Dade County Fair & Expo will bring back that childhood nostalgia of corn dogs and carnival rides. As the largest fair in Florida, there’s more than enough to keep the whole family occupied, including rides, competitions and live entertainment. Tickets start at $10 a head, or you can splurge on the $25 entry that comes with unlimited rides. The Miami-Dade County Fair & Expo runs from March 14 through to April 7. More information can be found at the official website.

Miami Riverday Festival

What could be more relaxing than a literal walk in the park? How about a boat ride down the river at the Lummus Park Historic District? Both are options during the Miami Riverday Festival, which will take place on April 6. Entry is free, as are the boat rides and live entertainment during this celebration of the Miami River. The event is hosted by the Miami River Commission, which aims to promote awareness and conservation of the Miami River. More information on the event can be found here.

South Beach Triathlon

Swim, run and bike your way through South Beach this April 14 at the South Beach Triathlon. Or, join the crowds and enjoy South Beach’s pleasant beach views while the athletes duke it out. Best of all, 100 percent of proceeds from the event will be donated to charity Save the Children. Find out more here.

O, Miami Poetry Festival

Over 40 events will take place across Miami this April as part of the O, Miami Poetry Festival. Sponsored by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, this poetry festival is a creative mix of readings, projects and other entertainment – most of which is free. The O, Miami Poetry Festival runs from April 1-30, and you can find out more here.

Mercedes-Benz Corporate Run

If you’ve still got some energy left after the triathlon, consider running over to the Mercedes-Benz Corporate Run. This 5 kilometer run starts at Bayfront Park on April 25, with registration costing $40 per head. Find out more at the official website.

Beach Polo World Cup

For more sports action, the Beach Polo World Cup will bring the world’s best professional players to South Beach. Taking place from April 25 to 28, come to see a weekend of polo players tearing up the sands on horseback. Find out more here.

SoFlo Cake and Candy Expo

Finally, how about dessert? Head over to the Miami Airport Convention Center between April 26-28 to see everyone from major industry stakeholders to local bakers showing off the sweetest treats from around Florida. Find out more at the website.
